Job Description:
Storage Engineer
As the Storage Engineer, you will design, architect and implement storage and backup solution in the mixed environment of Unix/Windows Operating Systems, as well as develop and integrate disk storage based snapshots to provide mechanism for immediate snapback if a system needs to be restored rapidly due to application or operating system corruption of data. You will also develop and document standards/procedures/strategies/scripts that maximize the functionality and reliability while minimizing downtime. Provide technical assistance for applications installs, backup/recovery strategies to address applications performance issues and general platform problem analysis.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Perform storage capacity monitoring and reporting to ensure that adequate data is available to assess the impact of growth trends and application changes
· Assess current hardware and software technology and its applicability to our environment
· Make recommendations for purchases, engineering and configuration changes
· Participate in a rotating on-call schedule will be required
· Keep records of maintenance activities and system performance
· Work on portions of the network carrying both proprietary and non-public personal information
· Operate under the supervision of the Managing Systems Engineer or their designee
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
· 4 years practical experience in an IT organization
· Thorough knowledge of Veritas Netbackup running on Linux/Solaris platform
· Experience with Veritas Net backup NDMP and Vault
· Linux certified – RHCE; other IT recognized certification preferred
· Broad understanding of Unix operating systems
· Open Directory and Postfix experience a plus
· Experience with Nagios, Cacti or similar system monitoring tools
· Experience with SAN or NAS network attached storage; NetApp
· User account creation/administration
· Server backup and data/systems recovery/restores
· Ability to utilize software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify, diagnose and repair complex problems and factors affecting systems performance
· Capability to be on call 24/7/365 to sustain availability and SLA
· Ability and flexibility to perform a number of engineering tasks at one time unsupervised
· Sound communication skills
· Strong team player a must
